Câmara de Lobos stands out for having one of Madeira’s most distinctive accents, its postcard-perfect bay, and the passionate way its people embrace life. Each year, the town comes alive for the Festas de São Pedro — this year taking place from 26 June to 1 July — with a varied programme to honour the Patron Saint of Fishermen.
The celebrations begin on 26 June at 18:30 with an ethnographic parade in honour of Saint Peter Gonzales Telmo, accompanied by performances from the folk groups of Quinta Grande and Refúgio da Freira. Later, at 21:30, the evening features the traditional fogo preso (a ground-based firework display), the symbolic burning of O Velho e a Velha (The Old Man and Old Woman), and the playful Roda Manhosa. The night continues with a concert by Kontraband, followed by Ivandro, who promises to “align the chakras” of the revellers.
On 27 June, the stage will host performances by Banda Filarmónica Aliança Velha, Catarina Melim, BRADO, and the popular Anjos duo, with the night rounding off with the Cromos da Noite DJs.
Over the following days, the fishing town continues the celebrations with more musical acts including Miro Freitas and Ana Malhoa on 29 June, Piruka on 30 June, among others.
The vibrant decorations for the Festas de São Pedro — renowned for their creativity — are brought to life by the hands of 500 volunteers, who help make this beloved tradition a true community affair.
