The restaurant's name is a year, 1811, to which the expressions Bistrô & Wine Bar have been associated. This year marks the arrival of the first member of the Blandy family in Madeira, who would become a key figure in the Madeira wine trade. The remaining expressions reflect the concept: a small, French-inspired restaurant with a welcoming, informal atmosphere and home-style cuisine.
This is why quiches, grilled dishes, cock au vin, Portuguese duck rice, squid, and foie gras are served.
The 1811 Bistrô & Wine Bar is located in Caves de São Francisco, commercially known as Blandy's Wine Lodge, a warehouse used to age Madeira wines, now a tourist attraction, a tasting room, and a wine shop.
The restaurant complements the offerings. It offers a terrace, a cozy dining room, and comfort food. This is complemented by a comprehensive wine cellar, always stocked with new offerings, reflecting the owner's passion for new wines. It's no surprise that you can find wines here that aren't yet listed on portals and apps.
This restaurant's location is also a highlight. It's located in the heart of Funchal, right next to the Municipal Garden and just a few dozen meters from the Cathedral. Open for lunch and dinner, it offers a selection of the chef's suggestions.
