Back in spring 2023, when Savoy Signature announced the launch of the Terreiro Fire Pit, it introduced a fresh new concept designed for the warmer months – a time when dining outdoors is particularly inviting. The idea featured long communal tables to encourage sharing with strangers, and a menu cooked over fire – from hot coals to wood – at the very heart of the experience: the Fire Pit.
The concept proved successful and returned in the following years, even expanding to Calheta Beach, another hotel in the group. This year was no exception. Throughout the summer, Terreiro Fire Pit once again offered an al fresco dining experience, with shared tables and food reminiscent of a barbecue.
The season closed with a special event on Saturday, 18th October. In the Terreiro garden – a fantastic venue for events – several stations were set up with wood-fired grills and braziers, where a variety of dishes were prepared by the Savoy Signature teams, led by Executive Chef Celestino Grave.
The atmosphere was that of a traditional Madeiran "arraial" (folk festival). There was even poncha, alongside wine and other drinks. The food was diverse, with each station serving a different dish – from octopus to tuna, lamb, vegetarian options, and even a twist on Madeira’s beloved bolo do caco, filled with cheese and chorizo – a true taste of a local celebration.
Live music was also part of the evening, followed by DJs playing until the end of the party.
The Terreiro Fire Pit will return next year, keeping the same spirit of sharing and informal fun – gathering around the table and enjoying the warm summer nights.
