The sun sets everywhere. That's why the title of this article seems naive, aiming to point to a specific place where this happens. But there are places where the farewell to another day can be enjoyed more effectively than others.
In Madeira, almost the entire western region offers countless sunset viewing spots. But if we want to combine nature with other activities, Paúl do Mar is on the itinerary. For almost two decades, this fishing village has established itself as a destination for vacationers, who gather along the road and take advantage of the opportunity to swim.
The sunset ends up being a consequence. Visitors seek out the two bars in the area, at the end of the road, Bar da Pedra and Maktub Pub. They spread their towels on the wall, or on the small concrete areas, and take advantage of the pier to go into the water.
Then, when the sun sets, it does so on the horizon without any other barriers, allowing you to enjoy the fading light until the last minutes.
This option can serve as an alternative and even a complement to the sunrise, which daily brings hundreds of people to Pico do Arieiro, causing traffic congestion. There are also people in Paúl do Mar, but the pressure is less. And outside the summer months, the spectacle begins earlier, which still allows you to dine at one of the restaurants in this picturesque parish.
