The initiative takes place in the context of the Flower Festival, one of the main events in the regional calendar, associated with nature, floriculture, and artistic expression in Madeira.
Over several weeks, Castanheiro Boutique Hotel presents a program that brings together tradition, art, and sensory experiences, open to both guests and visitors. Among the highlights is the exhibition “Tapestry in Bloom” by artisan Guida Patrício, which showcases Madeira’s textile tradition dating back to the 18th century. The pieces, from the artist’s private collection, are inspired by elements of the island’s flora.
The program also includes a Botanical Exhibition by Elisabete Henriques, featuring watercolor illustrations that depict species of Madeira’s flora and fauna, offering a more detailed view of the region’s natural heritage.
Madeira Embroidery is represented through pieces from the collection of the Institute of Wine and Embroidery of Madeira. Among them is a decorative embroidered panel dating from around 1900, featuring floral motifs such as roses, daisies, and lilies. The exhibition also includes tools used in the different stages of production.
Throughout the hotel, visitors can view floral installations that combine flowers with wicker, tapestry, and embroidery elements. These installations are spread across various spaces and can be captured by visitors using a Polaroid camera available at the reception.
On the gastronomic side, IRIS Lounge & Music offers a selection of flower-inspired cocktails throughout the month of May. Meanwhile, Til Spa presents the “Spring” massage, based on floral aromas.
In parallel, Restaurante Tipografia is taking part in the “Funchal in Bloom” competition with a themed storefront display.
With this set of initiatives, Castanheiro Boutique Hotel marks Flower Month with a program focused on Madeira’s traditions and artistic production.
