On 29 November, Blandy’s will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of its Colheita wines with a special dinner at Blandy’s Wine Lodge in Funchal. The event, presented by Chris Blandy, the company’s CEO and a member of the family’s seventh generation, highlights an important milestone for this category created by the Madeira Wine Company, bringing together a rare selection of wines and a menu crafted especially for the occasion.
Throughout the evening, guests will be invited to journey through the history of the Colheitas by tasting eight exceptional wines. Among the selected references are the Colheita Cossart Gordon Verdelho 1997 and the Colheita Blandy’s Sercial 1997, alongside the Champagne Mailly Grand Cru Blanc de Pinot Noir. The experience will also include the Atlantis Reserva Verdelho 2021, the renowned Vega Sicilia Único 2011, the Xisto Roquette & Cazes 2019, the Colheita Cossart Gordon Bual 2013 and, finally, the Colheita Blandy’s Malmsey 2007. The inclusion of these wines, some of them particularly rare, reinforces the exclusive character of the celebration.
The gastronomic element will be led by chef João Luz, from the Michelin-recommended Avista restaurant. The menu has been designed to pair with each wine, beginning with a couvert featuring sourdough bread, seaweed butter and Elizondo No. 3 olive oil. This will be followed by a starter of seared scallop with red prawn, watermelon, citrus and capers. The main course will consist of Black Angus short rib served with wild mushrooms, aged balsamic and Melanosporum truffle. The dessert, titled “Essence of Chocolate”, brings together 70% dark chocolate with passion fruit, cocoa and pecan.
According to the organisers, each dish has been designed to enhance the characteristics of the wines, creating an immersive experience that combines history, oenology and gastronomy. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase limited-edition wines, available exclusively during this commemorative evening.
Places are limited. The dinner is priced at €250 per person and begins at 7:30 p.m. Reservations can be made on the Blandy’s Wine Lodge website.
