Terrabona wines, produced in the north of Madeira, have a new image. The small producer, which also operates as a wine tourism business, has redesigned its bottles with a renewed focus on design. The occasion also served to present its range of wines, which can only be purchased directly on the estate, as production is limited.
Terrabona also unveiled the first natural wine from Madeira, fully vegan and without sulphites. It is a white wine made from the Arnsburger grape variety, a Riesling derivative that has become native to Madeira.
Only 250 bottles of this wine were produced, described as light, fresh and with aromas of green apple. Instead of sulphites, the wine is preserved using chestnut blossom, a product developed by Tree Flower Solution | Chest Wine. Each bottle is priced at 35 euros.
Another achievement for Terrabona was the gold medal at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, held in October 2025. An experimental wine made from the Loureiro grape, fermented and aged in clay amphorae, received the distinction. Production was limited to 200 bottles. This is an experimental project supported by the Madeira Wine Institute and therefore does not yet have a designated retail price.
In total, the Terrabona brand now has six internationally recognised wines. Among the awards received, the highlight is the Grand Gold Medal awarded to Terrabona 3 Famílias 2021 – Green Label (Skin-Contact White | Orange Wine) at the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes.
At the same event, the brand collected two further Gold Medals with Terrabona Family Harvest 2018 and Terrabona Laureiro Clay Wine 2023, the latter an experimental white wine.
Internationally, Terrabona French Oak Barrels 2019 was awarded a Gold Medal at the Berliner Wine Trophy, while Terrabona Clay Barrels 2020 received a Silver Medal at the same competition.
The first wine ever produced by the estate, Terrabona Family Harvest 2017, continues to stand out, earning a Bronze Medal at the Decanter Awards and the International Wine Challenge, as well as a score of 90 points from Robert Parker.
Wine production complements the property’s hospitality offering, a small boutique hotel focused on wine tourism.
Located in the parish of Boaventura, on Madeira’s north coast, in the midst of Laurissilva forest, Terrabona Nature & Vineyards is preparing to grow.
The next phase includes three new villas, each with a private pool, and the opening of a themed restaurant. It also includes a new winery for producing the estate’s wines, along with a tasting room for small events. A lounge with a wine showroom will also be added.
The expansion further includes a jacuzzi and massage room, complementing the existing wellness facilities, which already include an infinity pool overlooking a valley and stream, as well as a sauna.
All expansion works will follow the aesthetic of the existing buildings, with minimalist architecture integrated into the landscape and taking full advantage of the natural terrain.
