Il Gallo d’Oro, the PortoBay Group’s restaurant, will host on Saturday, 29 November, the second edition of “Madeira: A Taste of the Stars”, an initiative promoted by the Madeira Promotion Bureau and Turismo de Portugal. The event is part of a trilogy of gastronomic experiences designed as a prelude to the Michelin Gala 2026, which will take place in Madeira and for which Chef Benoît Sinthon will serve as gastronomic coordinator.
The kitchen of Il Gallo d’Oro - awarded two Michelin stars and a Green Star - will be the stage for a collaboration between leading figures in Madeira’s culinary scene. Joining Benoît Sinthon are Chef José Diogo Costa, from William (one Michelin star), Chef Gonçalo Bita Bota, from Oxalis (recommended by the Michelin Guide), and Chef Filipe Janeiro, from Gazebo, also recommended by the guide. Together, they will present an immersive experience inspired by the region’s ingredients and flavours, combining distinct techniques and culinary identities.
Among the special guests is Chef Davy Tissot, an internationally renowned figure, winner of the 2021 Bocuse d’Or, holder of the Meilleur Ouvrier de France title, and current president of the International Committee of the Bocuse d’Or.
The “Madeira: A Taste of the Stars” initiative aims to celebrate regional products, promote service excellence, and enhance the visibility of Madeira’s gastronomic diversity, further establishing the island as a leading destination in the European culinary landscape.
The Michelin Gala 2026 for Portugal will take place on 10 March 2026 at the Savoy Palace, in Funchal. This will be the third edition devoted exclusively to Portugal, reinforcing the Michelin Guide’s commitment to showcasing the country’s gastronomy and, in particular, the growing prominence of Madeira on the European culinary scene.
As for the “Madeira: A Taste of the Stars” gastronomic cycle, it will also feature a third dinner, scheduled for 6 December, at the William restaurant in Reid’s Palace, a Belmond Hotel (with one Michelin star). The host will be Chef José Diogo Costa, who will welcome other leading chefs for another celebration of Madeiran creativity and produce. The first dinner took place at Desarma, which holds one Michelin star and is led by Chef Octávio Freitas.
