The restaurant Kampo by Chef Júlio Pereira is once again bringing to life the “12 Months, 12 Chefs” initiative, a project that, throughout the year, invites different chefs to take over the restaurant’s kitchen for a special lunch. Unlike collaborative events featuring several chefs, each edition presents a menu created exclusively by the guest chef, prepared in partnership with the host restaurant’s team.

Now in its second edition, the project’s main objective is to take the Madeira brand even further, promoting innovative and distinctive concepts, always with regional produce as the star of the show. Beyond showcasing the participating restaurants, the initiative aims to strengthen the island’s image as a leading gastronomic destination, highlighting the quality and diversity of local ingredients.

The guest chef for March is Vasco Coelho Santos, one of the most prominent names of the new generation of Portuguese gastronomy. His career began in Lisbon at Atelier de Cozinha Michel, and also includes time at Olivier Avenida with Olivier da Costa, and the historic Tavares Rico with José Avillez.

In 2010, he moved to Spain, where he worked at some of the world’s most prestigious restaurants, including Mugaritz, Arzak and el Bulli. His experience alongside chefs such as Andoni Aduriz, Juan Mari Arzak and Ferran Adrià profoundly shaped his creative approach to cuisine.

Following international experiences in cities such as London and Singapore, Vasco returned to Porto, where he founded the private cooking project Euskalduna, which later evolved into Euskalduna Studio, inaugurated at the end of 2016. In this space, there is no separation between kitchen and dining room, offering an immersive and personalised experience, with Portuguese ingredients taking centre stage.

Chef Vasco Coelho Santos has accepted Kampo’s invitation and will be at the Funchal restaurant on 8 March at 1.00 pm for a lunch that promises a true gastronomic journey, celebrating creativity and Portuguese flavours.
